Home Sweet Home

EDMOND (Nov. 7) – Taylor Bevis led a balanced attack that carried Central Oklahoma to a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association sweep of Southwest Baptist Saturday night at Hamilton Field House.

Bevis had a match-high 12 kills and four other players had six-plus kills as the No. 15-ranked Bronchos prevailed 25-18, 25-11, 25-23 for their 16th straight home win and 19th sweep of the season.

UCO improved to 26-3 on the season and took over the conference lead at 14-2 after No. 9 Washburn fell to Central Missouri.

"We were a little inconsistent tonight and struggled in the third set, but we got the job done," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "It's important to protect your home court in this league and we've done a good job of that."

The Bronchos hit .284 on the night with 42 kills and 13 errors in 102 attacks.

Bevis' 12 kills paced UCO, while Barbara Jackson and Allison Barr added eight each.  Jackson hit .533 with no errors in 15 attempts and Barr also contributed three blocks.

Jordan Spence and Deborah Ijeoma Njenje had six kills apiece, Katy Davis handed out 36 assists and Whitney Gifford made 21 digs.

Three service errors helped SBU stay close in the first set before UCO finally pulled away down the stretch and the Bronchos took control in the second set to grab command of the match.

The third set went back-and-forth early and was close throughout.  UCO went up 24-20 on a Spence ace, but the Bearcats scored three straight points to get close before an attack error ended the match.

The Bronchos finish the regular season with two more home matches next week, hosting Emporia State Friday and Washburn Saturday.
