Overtime Thriller!

EMPORIA, Kan. (Oct. 4) – Kentia Kokis scored midway through the first overtime period to propel Central Oklahoma to a 4-3 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association victory over Emporia State here Sunday afternoon.

The two teams were tied 3-3 after 90 minutes of regulation play, but Kokis ended the drama five minutes into the first extra session when she took a pass from Falyn Dodd on a breakaway and booted in her second goal of the game from 12 yards out.

"We battled hard all day and found a way to win," head coach Mike Cook said.  "There were a lot of momentum shifts, but we hung tough and Kentia made a great play in  overtime."

The Bronchos improved to 6-3-1 on the season and 3-0-1 in the league with their third straight win while ESU to 6-4-0 and 2-2-0.

Kokis scored in the 19th minute on a rebound shot from six yards out to give UCO an early lead, but the Hornets tied it eight minutes later.

Courtney Essary broke the deadlock at the 27:52 mark on a shot from close range off an assist from Katie Killion, with the Hornets tying it again at 2-all just two  minutes before halftime.

Killion put the Bronchos back in front 3-2 in the 58th minute with a shot from 25 yards out, but ESU answered three minutes later to draw even.

It stayed a 3-3 deadlock until Kokis came through with her seventh goal of the season to give UCO the dramatic victory.

The Bronchos return to action Friday, hosting conference rival Nebraska-Kearney at 4 p.m.
