Bronchos Blank Washburn

TOPEKA, Kan. (Oct. 2) – A dominating defensive effort and goals by freshmen Falyn Dodd and Kentia Kokis lifted Central Oklahoma to a 2-0 shutout of Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Washburn here Friday night.

The Bronchos allowed only two shots in the 90-minute contest to record their second straight win, improving to 5-3-1 on the season and 2-0-1 in the league.

"We played well in all phases of the game and came out with a good road win," head coach Mike Cook said.  "We're getting better every time we take the field and just need to keep moving forward."

Dodd, who had both goals in a 2-1 win over Northwest Missouri in UCO's last outing, delivered the first score against the Ichabods at the 42:34 mark with a shot from 10 yards out after the Bronchos forced a turnover.

Kokis completed the scoring in the 58th minute, completing a breakaway with a shot past WU's goalkeeper into the back left corner of the net with an assist from Paige Matacchiera.

That 2-0 cushion was more than enough for UCO's defense, which seldom let the Ichabods cross midfield.

The Bronchos continue conference play Sunday in Emporia, Kan., taking on Emporia State at 12 p.m.
