Bronchos Plaster NWMSU

Box Score

EDMOND (Jan. 3) – Another stout defensive performance resulted in another lopsided home rout for Central Oklahoma Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos limited Northwest Missouri to 26.8 percent shooting, scored 25 points off turnovers while making a season-high 13 steals and returned to Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play with a 68-38 drubbing.

It was the ninth win in 10 outings for UCO, which improved to 6-0 at home with an average winning margin of 22.1 points.  The Bronchos, who finished 12-16 last year, are now 11-3 on the season and 4-1 in the league.

"We did a nice job defensively, both in creating turnovers and forcing them to take tough shots," head coach Guy Hardaker said.  "We started a little slow, but I thought we played pretty well for the most part and it was a good conference win for us."

Julia Mason and McKenzie Solberg had 14 points apiece to pace UCO, which had 10 players score at least two points.  Olivia Mason added 12 points, four steals, three blocked shots and three assists.

Marley Anderson contributed seven points and four steals and Chelsea Robinson chipped in six points, six assists and three steals.  The Bronchos committed a season-low nine turnovers and had assists on 17 of 24 field goals.

UCO took control with a 15-0 first-half run that turned a 16-10 lead into a commanding 31-10 cushion as the Bronchos forced four turnovers and harassed the Bearcats into eight straight missed shots during that five-minute stretch.

J. Mason had six points during the surge and Solberg drained UCO's first 3-pointer of the opening half, with Mason's two free throws at 2:03 mark giving the Bronchos their 31-10 lead.

It was a 22-point advantage at 34-12 at 0:22 when Chelsi Dennis splashed through a trey from the wing, with NWMSU making it 34-15 at the break on a last-second 3-pointer.

The closest the Bearcats got in the second half was 16 at 41-25 in the early going, but two Robinson free throws and an O. Mason 3-pointer quickly had UCO back on top by 21 (46-25) and the Bronchos were on cruise control the rest of the way.

UCO starts a four-game league road swing next week, traveling to Missouri Southern Thursday and Southwest Baptist Saturday.
