Cold-shooting Bronchos Fall To PSU

Box Score

PITTSBURG, Kan. (Jan. 29) –
Central Oklahoma's shooting woes continued here Thursday night in an 85-55 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association loss to No. 9-ranked Pittsburg State.

The Bronchos shot just 33.3 percent (21-of-63) from the field and made only 1-of-17 attempts (5.9 percent) from 3-point range while also getting outrebounded 49-33 in dropping their fifth straight game.

UCO fell to 13-8 on the season and 6-6 in the league, while the Gorillas improved to 19-3 and 9-2.

"We're not that bad a shooting team, but right now we're having a hard time putting the ball in the basket," head coach Guy Hardaker said.  "It's tough enough to win in this league as it is and when you don't make shots it's really difficult."

The Bronchos led 4-1 in the first three minutes and was up 8-6 after a Chelsea Robinson jumper.  PSU came back with six straight points for an 12-8 lead, but Marley Anderson's 3-pointer had UCO within 12-11 at the 11:41 mark.

But Central went cold after that, missing eight of its next 10 shots as the Gorillas went on a 15-4 run to push their lead to 27-15 with 5:52 left in the half.

PSU led by 13 (36-23) at halftime and then scored the first 10 points of the second half to push the advantage to 23 at 46-23.  The Bronchos never got closer than 17 the rest of the way.

Robinson had 13 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists to lead UCO.  Anderson and Julia Mason added 11 points apiece, but Kylie Mayes and Olivia Mason – the team's two leading scorers – were held to a combined five points.

The Bronchos don't play again until hosting intrastate rival Northeastern State next Thursday.
