Anderson Sparks UCO Rout

Box Score

EDMOND (Dec. 4) –
Marley Anderson scored nine of her career-high 17 points during a six-minute first-half stretch that put Central Oklahoma in command and the streaking Bronchos went on to pummel Lindenwood 76-47 Thursday night at Hamilton Field House.

It was the fifth straight win – and the fourth by at least 15 points -- for UCO, which improved to 7-2 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association opener for both teams.  The Lady Lions suffered their first loss of the season after a 5-0 start.

"We played well tonight and really got after them defensively," said head coach Guy Hardaker after the Bronchos limited LU to 30.4-percent shooting from the field.  "It was a great way to start the conference schedule and we just want to keep getting better."

UCO committed a season-low nine turnovers and had assists on 17 of its 26 made field goals while outscoring the Lady Lions 32-18 in the paint.

Anderson was 7-of-11 from the field – including 3-of-4 from long range – in her career-best 17-point outing off the bench and the sophomore guard also pulled down five rebounds, handed out three assists and made two steals.

McKenzie Solberg also came up big off the bench with 16 points, hitting 5-of-8 shots with one trey and 5-of-6 free throws.  Julia Mason added eight points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots and Hayley Bryan had a game-high nine rebounds with four points.

Anderson's nine-point barrage highlighted a devastating 22-2 run that turned a precarious 16-14 lead midway through the opening half into a huge 38-16 advantage and the Bronchos were never threatened in the final 20 minutes.

Solberg started the spurt with a layup off a nice pass from Kylie Mayes, Jordan Ward made a fast-break layup following a LU miss and Anderson drilled a 3-pointer from the wing to bump the lead to 23-14.

The Lady Lions got a bucket at the 8:21 mark to make it 23-16, but UCO reeled off 15 unanswered points to take control.

J. Mason splashed through a trey from the top of the key and Olivia Mason had a conventional three-point play during the spurt that Anderson ended with three consecutive layups on baseline drives to give the Bronchos a 38-16 cushion with 2:28 left.

It was a 19-point advantage (40-21) at intermission and LU got no closer than 17 in the second half.

UCO stays home to host conference foe Lincoln Sunday at 12 p.m. in a game that was originally scheduled for Saturday.
