Bronchos Roll To Fourth Straight Win

Box Score

BETHANY, Okla. (Dec. 2) –
Sisters Julia and Olivia Mason combined for 44 points and Central Oklahoma overcame a rough start to run past Southern Nazarene 87-72 Tuesday night at the Sawyer Center.

It was the fourth straight win for the Bronchos, who improved to 6-2 on the season heading into Thursday's 5:30 p.m. Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association opener at home against Lindenwood.

J. Mason made three 3-pointers and 8-of-9 free throws in scoring a season-high 27 points – one off her career high – while adding nine rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots.  O. Mason scored all 17 of her points in the second half, going a perfect 5-of-5 from long range.

"We didn't seem ready to play when the game started, but we forced some turnovers and finally started making some shots," head coach Guy Hardaker said.  "We've got a little momentum going into the conference opener and need to get off to a good start."

Marley Anderson gave UCO a big left off the bench, making all four shots with a pair of treys and scoring seven of her 11 points during a key first-half surge that put the Bronchos in front to stay.

UCO shot 60.0 percent from beyond the arc, hitting 12-of-20 long-range attempts.  The Bronchos also came up with 12 steals and outrebounded SNU 40-34.

The Crimson Storm bolted to a 15-8 lead eight minutes into the game as UCO missed seven of its first 10 shots and had four turnovers before Anderson ignited a big 18-5 run that turned the game around.

The sophomore guard made a layup off a baseline drive and a 3-pointer from the wing before two Hayley Bryan free throws tied the game at 15-all and she followed an SNU bucket with another layup in traffic.

SNU made a trey to regain a 20-17 lead, but the Bronchos answered with nine unanswered points.  J. Mason had a 3-pointer from the top of the key and a fast-break layup before McKenzie Solberg's conventional three-point put UCO in front 26-20.

Another J. Mason layup off a midcourt steal helped push the advantage to 10 at 32-22 with 2:48 left before the Bronchos settled for a 37-30 halftime edge.

UCO then opened the second half with seven unanswered points, capped by a Haley Weathers layup off a fast-break to go ahead 44-30.

SNU was within nine at 57-48 when the Bronchos went on another 7-0 spree, with Anderson's 3-pointer from the wing making it 66-50 with 7:56 left to play.

The lead peaked at 78-60 on O. Mason's trey from the corner at the 2:35 mark and UCO coasted in from there.
