Jennies Rally Past UCO

Box Score

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Dec. 18) –
A six-minute dry spell turned a double-digit lead into a tie and Central Oklahoma ended up dropping a disappointing 63-58 decision to defending Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association champion Central Missouri here Thursday night.

The Bronchos led by as many as 14 in the first half and still had an 11-point advantage at 46-35 with 11:25 left to play, but UCO missed six of its next seven shots – all layups – and two free throws as the Jennies went on a 13-2 run to tie it at 48-all by the 5:19 mark.

Central Missouri seized the lead to stay with 2:44 remaining and went on to end UCO's six-game winning streak in dropping the Bronchos to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

"We just didn't play very well the last 11 or 12 minutes and came up short in a game we had a chance to win," head coach Guy Hardaker said.  "We missed a lot of easy shots and made some mistakes that really hurt us."

It was the second-lowest scoring game of the season for UCO, which entered the contest averaging 74.6 points a contest.

Olivia Mason paced the Bronchos with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Haley Weathers had 12 points, six steals and four assists.

UCO trailed 12-7 six minutes into the game before Jordan Ward scored six straight points to ignite an 18-1 spurt that gave the Bronchos a 25-13 lead on O. Mason's layup with 8:59 left in the half.

It was a 14-point advantage at 31-17 after a Kylie Mayes free throw with 3:43 remaining and again at 34-20 when Weathers drained a 3-pointer at the 1:53 mark before UCM scored the final four points to get within 10 (34-24) at intermission.

UCO still enjoyed a double-digit lead after O. Mason's layup with 11:25 remaining made it 46-35 before the Bronchos went cold and the Jennies rallied to tie it at 48-all by the 5:19 mark.

Julia Mason put UCO back on top with a 3-pointer and followed a tying Central Missouri trey with a layup to give the Bronchos a 53-51 edge, but the Jennies reeled off eight straight points to move in front 59-53 with 1:28 to play.

UCO returns to conference action Saturday, moving on to St. Joseph, Mo. to take on Missouri Western at 1:30 p.m.
