EDMOND (Nov. 5) –
Paige Matacchiera spearheaded an offensive onslaught that carried Central Oklahoma to a 5-0 drubbing of Lindenwood Wednesday afternoon at Tom Thompson Field in the first round of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Post-season Tournament.

The sophomore forward scored two goals and added an assist as the Bronchos advanced to Friday's semifinals against Central Missouri at 4 p.m. Friday in Olathe, Kan.  Southwest Baptist and Fort Hays State meet in the other semifinal at 7 p.m., with Friday's two winners meeting for the tournament title at 11 a.m. Sunday.

UCO dominated from start-to-finish and outshot the Lions 27-5 while registering their 13th shutout of the season, including the third straight.

"We came out aggressive and played well," said head coach Mike Cook, whose team improved to 13-4-2.  "We did a nice job attacking the goal and our defense was really strong once again."

The Bronchos missed two good scoring chances in the first 10 minutes before Matacchiera finally broke through at the 15:03 mark when she headed in a goal from close range off a deflection, with Kenzie Sublett getting the assist.

Lexi Carroll, who scored two goals in UCO's 4-1 regular-season win over the Lions, upped the lead to 2-0 in the 24th minute when she took a Miranda Thorne pass and knocked in a shot from 25 feet out.

Matacchiera made it 3-0 five minutes before halftime with a laser shot from 35 yards out the went over the head of LU's goalkeeper.

The Bronchos padded their lead in the 63rd minute on Emily Hahn's header off Matacchiera's corner kick and Courtney Essary completed the scoring with just over two minutes from 25 yards away.

Sublett, Thorne and Quinn Tookey led UCO's defensive efforts that limited the Lions to just five shots, including one on goal.  Brandi Bartley rejected that one shot in playing the first 71 minutes in goal before Elle Stover finished the game.
