Robinson A Triple Threat In UCO Rout

Box Score

EDMOND (Nov. 29) –
Chelsea Robinson put on a dazzling all-around performance and Central Oklahoma overcame a slow start to overwhelm Arkansas-Fort Smith 92-65 Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

Robinson had perhaps the first triple-double in school history with 16 rebounds, 15 points and 11 assists – all career highs – while adding a steal and blocked shot in a remarkable 25-minute outing off the bench as the Bronchos overcame an eight-point first-half deficit to claim their third straight win.

The senior guard's dominating show overshadowed a career-high 24-point game by sharp-shooter Haley Weathers, who made 8-of-10 shots with four 3-pointers.

UCO outrebounded the Lions 52-32, had assists on 27 of 36 made field goals and committed just 12 turnovers in improving to 5-2.

"We didn't get off to a very good start, but we played pretty well the last 10 minutes of the first half and really turned it on in the second half," head coach Guy Hardaker said.  "Haley made some big shots to give us some breathing room and Chelsea just played fantastic."

Robinson eclipsed her previous career rebounding high of six with nine in the first half while adding seven points and six assists before tacking on seven boards, eight points and five assists in the second.  She made 6-of-12 shots with one 3-pointer and 2-of-3 foul shots.

The Bronchos led just 39-36 at halftime and the teams traded buckets in the first minute of the second half before Kylie Mayes scored on a short jumper to spark a 9-2 run that made it 53-40.

Weathers had seven points as UCO stretched its advantage to 22 (68-46) by the 11:53 mark and the outcome was never in doubt again.

UAFS got no closer than 19 the rest of the way as the Bronchos coasted in with their second lopsided win of the week.

Olivia Mason also finished in double figures for UCO with 10 points, while Mayes, Julia Mason and Sierra Moore had eight points apiece.  Jordan Ward chipped in seven points and eight assists.

The Lions came out firing from long range and hit four early 3-pointers in building an 18-10 lead seven minutes into the game.

It was still a five-point deficit (30-25) when McKenzie Solberg scored five straight points with a 3-pointer and layup to tie it before Robinson put UCO on top to stay at 33-30 with a trey from the top of the key off a pass from Solberg with 4:27 left.

The Bronchos went on to take a 39-36 lead into intermission and then completely dominated the final 20 minutes.
