Box Score

DENTON, Texas (Nov. 22) –
Olivia Mason's 3-pointer with 2:10 left to play put Central Oklahoma on top and the Bronchos went on to edge Texas Woman's 54-52 here Saturday on the second day of the Marriott Champions Circle Pioneer Premiere.

UCO overcame an 11-point first-half deficit in pulling out the tough win as the Bronchos improved to 3-2 after splitting two games in the two-day classic.

"We didn't shoot the ball very well, but we played tough defense all night and got out of here with a really good win," head coach Guy Hardaker said.  "We came up with some big rebounds at the end and I'm proud of how hard we played."

Mason's trey from the top of the key gave UCO a 52-51 lead and neither team scored again until Jordan Ward drove in and made a contested layup with 38.3 seconds remaining to put the Bronchos up 54-51.

Kylie Mayes rebounded a TWU miss at 21.8, but O. Mason missed the front end of a one-and-one with 10.5 seconds left.  UCO fouled the Pioneers with 3.4 seconds to play and they made one foul shot to make it 54-52 before intentionally missing the second and O. Mason was fouled on the rebound.

She missed the free throw with 1.8 ticks remaining and TWU's desperation one-hand heave from 80 feet away wasn't close as the Bronchos held on.

McKenzie Solberg scored 15 points off the bench to lead UCO, while Julia Mason added 12 points and nine rebounds in making the all-tournament team.

O. Mason made three treys in finishing with nine points and Haley Weathers chipped in eight points and a career-high eight rebounds.

UCO missed 10 of its first 11 shots and committed five turnovers in falling behind 15-4 eight minutes into the game and it was still a 10-point deficit at 19-9 with 7:34 left in the opening half.

Buckets by Solberg, J. Mason and Ward in a 6-0 run pulled the Bronchos within 19-15 and it was a three-point deficit at 21-18 following a Solberg 3-pointer at the 3:00 mark.

J. Mason's jumper still had UCO down three (25-22) with 58 seconds left before the Pioneers hit a trey down the stretch to take a 28-22 lead into the break.

The Bronchos opened the second half with a 15-2 run to seize a 37-30 lead, getting six points from O. Mason and four apiece from J. Mason and Weathers in that spurt.

TWU came back with 10 unanswered points to reclaim the lead at 40-37 with 8:24 left to play, but a J. Mason jumper and two Solberg foul shots had UCO on top 41-40 at the 7:16 mark.

It was back-and-forth the rest of the way before O. Mason hit the 3-pointer that put the Bronchos on top to stay.

UCO returns to action Tuesday with a 5:30 p.m. game in Weatherford against Southwestern Oklahoma.
