EDMOND (Nov. 18) –
Olivia Mason scored 14 of her career-high 21 points in the second half to propel Central Oklahoma past Oklahoma Christian 78-67 in the home opener Tuesday night at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos moved in front to stay midway through the first half, led by as many as 15 in the final 20 minutes and claimed their second straight win in improving to 2-1.

Mason was the catalyst, hitting 6-of-11 shots – including 3-of-6 from beyond the 3-point arc – and all six free throw attempts in her 21-point outing.  The sophomore guard added six rebounds, a career-best four steals and three assists in 34 minutes.

Haley Weathers also made three treys in a 16-point, four-assist, three-assist outing, while McKenzie Solberg chipped in 10 points off the bench.

"We played really well in spurts, but still weren't as consistent as we need to be," head coach Guy Hardaker said.  "We did a good job against their press and that was a big key for us.  It was nice to be home and we picked up a good win."

The game went back-and-forth the first 10 minutes before UCO went ahead to stay at 21-18 on a O. Mason's first 3-pointer of the game and she scored on a follow shot a minute later to make it 23-18.

The Bronchos pushed their lead to nine (28-19) before settling for a 35-30 halftime advantage.

The Eagles were within two at 41-39 four minutes into the second half, but UCO responded with a 13-4 run to push its lead back to double digits.

Weathers started that spurt with a 3-pointer from the wing, Julia Mason added long-range shot from the top of the key and O. Mason drained a corner trey as the Bronchos went ahead 54-43 with 11:58 remaining.

The lead peaked at 15 (67-52) on a Chelsi Dennis 3-pointer with 6:34 left and UCO coasted in from there.

The Bronchos return to action this weekend at the 2014 Marriott Champions Circle Pioneer Premiere in Denton, Texas, going against Midwestern State Friday and host Texas Woman's Saturday.
