EDMOND (Nov 18) –
Seth Heckart sparked a first-half run that put Central Oklahoma in control and the unbeaten Bronchos went on to pound near-by rival Oklahoma Christian 86-60 Tuesday night at Hamilton Field House.

Heckart scored 12 of his game-high 20 points during a 22-7 scoring spurt that turned a 9-8 deficit into a 30-16 lead and the outcome was never in doubt the rest of the way.

UCO improved to 3-0 with the home-opening win, while the Eagles dropped to 1-1.

"We played good defense and really hit the boards hard," said head coach Terry Evans after the Bronchos limited OC to 35.2-percent shooting and held a 48-29 rebounding advantage.  "Those are the two most important things for us and we did a great job at both of them."

Heckart made 5-of-10 long-range shots and all three free throw attempts in his 20-point outing.  The 6-foot junior guard also hauled in a career-high eight rebounds while adding four assists and two steals.

Cal Andrews made four treys in scoring 16 points off the bench, Garen Wright had 14 points and Trai Jordan added 10 rebounds and eight points.

UCO got off to a slow start and trailed 9-8 six minutes in, but Heckart ignited the game-turning run with a 3-pointer from the top of the key to put the Bronchos on top to stay 11-9.

He made two more treys and three free throws after being fouled while shooting a 3-pointer during the scoring spree that ended with Wright's tip-in at the 6:17 mark that gave UCO a 30-16 lead.

Another Heckart bomb had the Bronchos on top 35-18 with 4:26 left it was a 14-point cushion (40-26) at intermission.

The Eagles were within 11 at 49-38 five minutes into the second half, but Andrews nailed a pair of 3-pointers and Jordan had an explosive two-handed dunk after a steal during a 15-1 run that pushed the lead to 25 (64-39) with 10:19 remaining.

UCO's lead peaked at 32 (76-44) on a Reggie Sloan trey with 6:33 left as the Bronchos cruised in with their seventh straight home win.

Central is home again Saturday to host Oklahoma City at 2 p.m.
