Bronchos Move On

Box Score

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Nov. 14) –
Another suffocating defensive effort and Kate Foran's 55th-minute goal led Central Oklahoma to a tense 1-0 victory over Augustana in the first round of the NCAA Division II Central Regional here Friday afternoon.

It was a school-record 15th shutout of the season for the Bronchos, who allowed just one shot on goal in improving to 14-4-3.  UCO will take on host and No. 10-ranked Central Missouri at 12 p.m. for a spot in the Sweet 16.

"We played with great effort today and got the job done," head coach Mike Cook said.  "Our defense really shut them down and Kate made a big goal.  We're happy to moving on and look forward to the challenge Sunday."

The Bronchos had 16 shots on the day, including six on goal, but Foran was the only player able to put the ball in the net.

The senior midfielder scored with 35:16 left, using her back heal to boot the ball past Augie's goalkeeper after taking a pass from Quinn Tookey off Emily Precure's corner kick.

UCO's defense did the rest, led by the back row group of Tookey, Miranda Thorne, Ashley McDaniel and Courtney CoxBrandi Bartley went the distance between the posts, rejecting the only shot on goal she faced.

The Bronchos had three good chances to score the last 30 minutes, but Augie made saves on long shots from Tess Barnard and Lexi Carroll while Emily Hahn was high from 20 yards out.

UCO lost two players to knee injuries in the game, with Paige Matacchiera going out late in the first half and Kenna Dyess midway through the second.

The Bronchos got a penalty kick out of Matacchiera's injury, though Kenzie Sublett's hard shot was knocked down and her rebound kick went over the goal.

Sunday's game will be the third meeting this season between UCO and the Jennies.  UCM won 1-0 on a late goal in the regular season and prevailed in a tiebreaker (4-3) after a 0-0 tie in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Post-season Tournament semifinals.
