Jennies End UCO Season

Box Score

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Nov. 16) –
An early-game goal put Central Oklahoma in a quick hole and the Bronchos couldn't get its offense untracked in falling to undefeated Central Missouri 2-0 here Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championships.

The No. 10-ranked Jennies scored four minutes into the game and UCO never answered back, with Central Missouri tacking on the clinching goal in the 69th minute en route to beating the Bronchos for the third time this season.

UCO had a five-game shutout streak ended in finishing the year 14-5-3.  The Jennies improved to 20-0-2 in moving on to the Sweet 16.

"The early goal really hurt us and we had some technical breakdowns," said head coach Mike Cook, whose team was makign its 10th national tournament appearance since 2000.  "It's a disappointing loss, but we have a great group of girls who worked hard all season and we had a good year."

The Bronchos prevented UCM from adding to its early lead in the 15th minute when Brandi Bartley made a good save in goal and Courtney Cox kicked the ball away from the net on a two-shot sequence to keep it a 1-0 game.

UCO appeared poised to tie the game 11 minutes into the second half when Kenzie Sublett sent a perfect pass toward Sarah Purcell as she raced to the net, but UCM's goalkeeper made an aggressive play to intercept the pass and keep the Bronchos at bay.

Emily Precure was wide on a shot with 23 minutes left and the Jennies made it 2-0 just two minutes later.

Emily Hahn had two good shots in the final 18 minutes, missing wide right after taking a pass from Quinn Tookey on the first before UCM's goalkeeper knocked down the second offering from 20 yards out.

It was the final game for seven UCO seniors – Bartley, Hahn, Purcell, Elle Aston, Tess Barnard, Kate Foran and Miranda Thorne.
