UCO, Hornets Battle To Draw

Box Score

EDMOND (Oct. 5) – Central Oklahoma kept its shutout streak alive but failed to continue a modest winning streak as the Bronchos were forced to settle for a scoreless tie with Emporia State Sunday afternoon at sun-splashed Tom Thompson Field.

The two teams battled to a 0-0 deadlock through 90 minutes of regulation and a pair of 10-minute overtime periods in a tense, physical battle that saw 37 fouls called, ending UCO's three-game winning streak.

"We had some good scoring chances and just didn't take advantage like we could have, which was disappointing," head coach Mike Cook said.  "It was a tough game and our defense was strong, but we didn't put a ball in the net."

The Bronchos, now 7-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, outshot the Hornets 17-13 in recording their fourth consecutive shutout and had some prime scoring opportunities fail to materialize.

Neither team really threatened in the first half and UCO missed three good chances in a 12-minute span of the second half.

Emily Hahn hard shot from 10 feet away bounced off the post in the 55th minute, Lexi Carroll's open offering from 10 yards away was over the net and Sarah Purcell's shot from close range sailed high.

The Bronchos didn't have any great scoring opportunities after that and ESU had the only shot on goal in 20 minutes of overtime play.

UCO returns to league play Friday at Nebraska-Kearney.
