Halloween Treat

Box Score

EDMOND (Oct. 31) –
Lexi Carroll gave Central Oklahoma an early Halloween treat when she scored early in the first overtime period to vault the Bronchos past Northeastern State 1-0 Friday afternoon at Tom Thompson Field.

Neither team could score in 90 minutes of regulation, but it didn't take long for Carroll to knock in the game-winner in the extra period.

The freshman forward tallied her fifth goal of the season just 1:47 into OT, gathering in a deflection off a Kenzie Sublett shot and hammering the ball past NSU's diving goalkeeper to the right side of the net to end the suspense.

"Lexi made a great shot and we're happy to get the win, but it shouldn't have come down to that," head coach Mike Cook said.  "We had plenty of chances to score and just couldn't get the ball in the net.  We played great defense and controlled the game, though it just took a while to score."

UCO improved to 11-4-2 on the season and 8-3-2 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.  The Bronchos, who locked up at least a fourth-place finish and the right to host a first-round MIAA Tournament game, host Missouri Southern at 1 p.m. Sunday to end the regular season.

Central dominated most of the game, finishing with a big 17-5 advantage in shots.

Sublett, Quinn Tookey and Courtney Essary led a lock-down defensive effort and Elle Stover made four saves in goal to record her fourth shutout.

The Bronchos nearly scored three minutes into the game on Sublett's hard shot from 25 feet away, with Carroll, Kate Foran and Gabi Bochus also getting close on first-half scores.

UCO didn't have as many clean opportunities in the final half, though Tess Barnard's long-range shot with eight minutes left came close to finding the target.
