Carroll Carries Bronchos

Box Score

EDMOND (Oct. 19) –
Lexi Carroll scored early in both halves and added an assist to spark Central Oklahoma to a 4-1 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association drubbing of Lindenwood Sunday afternoon at Tom Thompson Field.

Carroll notched her first goal of the day just 3:31 into the contest and the fleet-footed freshman scored again less than three minutes into the second half as the Bronchos bounced back emphatically from a tough 1-0 loss to No. 9-ranked Central Missouri Friday.

"It was important that we take control early today and I thought we did a great job of being aggressive at the start," head coach Mike Cook said.  "We attacked the goal, did a better job of finishing our chances and came out with a good win."

UCO improved to 9-3-2 on the season and 6-2-2 in the league in breaking a scoring drought that had seen the Bronchos tally just one goal in its previous four games, going 1-1-2 in that stretch.

Carroll got things going with her early-game goal, taking a nice cross from Kenzie Sublett and ramming in a shot from 15 feet away.

Kenna Dyess upped UCO's lead to 2-0 in the 12th minute with her first goal of the season, dribbling in and beating the goalkeeper with a drive to the left side from 10 feet.

The Lions got their lone score at the 20:54 mark with a 30-yard shot over the head of goalkeeper Elle Stover, who got a hand on ball but wasn't able to bring it in.

The Bronchos kept that 2-1 lead until breaking the game open with two scores in a 21-second span early in the second half.

Carroll made it 3-1 in the 48th minute when she drilled a shot to the right side of the net from close range for her fourth goal of the season and she got the assist 21 seconds later on Sublett's 25-footer to the back post.

UCO coasted in from there.

The Bronchos go on the road for two conference matches next week, returning home Oct. 31 to host Northeastern State.
