EDMOND (Oct. 17) –
A back-and-forth defensive standoff went against Central Oklahoma down the stretch as No. 9-ranked Central Missouri scored with 6:42 remaining to pull out a 1-0 victory.

Each team had good scoring opportunities in a superbly played game by both sides, but defense dominated for the most part until the Jennies broke the deadlock when Alex Yockey scored from close range on a rebound shot off a corner kick.

The Bronchos didn't get off a shot the rest of the game and fell to 8-3-2 overall and 5-2-2 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play in having a six-game unbeaten streak snapped.  League-leading UCM improved to 12-0-1 and 9-0.

"It's a very disappointing loss," head coach Mike Cook said.  "We played good enough to win, but we've got to do a better job of finishing our chances."

UCO outshot the Jennies 14-12 and failed to connect on seven shots on goal.  Goalkeeper Brandi Bartley made six saves for the Bronchos, who got outstanding defensive efforts from Quinn Tookey, Kenzie Sublett, Courtney Cox and Ashley McDaniel.

Tess Barnard just missed on two first-half shots, with UCM goalkeeper Ana Dilkes making a one-handed stop on one and a diving save on another.

McDaniel nearly scored in the 58th minute on a direct kick, but UCO's best scoring chance came with just under 24 minutes remaining when Lexi Carroll took the ball away from a UCM defender 25 yards from the goal.

The speedy freshman forward appeared to have the upper hand in a  one-on-one confrontation with Dilkes, but Carroll's shot from 15 feet away went wide of the net to keep the game scoreless.

The Bronchos are back in action Sunday, hosting conference foe Lindenwood at 1 p.m.
