SHAWNEE, Okla. (Oct. 30) –
Jill Bryan scored 17 points to lead a balanced attack and Central Oklahoma overcame an early deficit to race past Oklahoma Baptist 94-52 in its exhibition opener here Tuesday night.

The Bronchos missed their first five shots in falling behind 6-0 three minutes into the game before Bryan scored four straight points in a 10-4 run that put UCO in front to stay.

Central went on to take a 39-29 halftime lead and then scored the first seven points of the second half to remove any doubt on the outcome.

Bryan hit 6-of-9 shots with a pair of 3-pointers in her 17-point outing that led both teams.  The Bronchos also got 13 points from Chelsea Robinson and 11 apiece from freshmen Whitney Dunn and McKenzie Solberg, who combined to hit 9-of-11 shots from the field.

Solberg also had a game-high nine rebounds, while Jordan Ward added nine points and four steals and Rachel New nine points and three steals.  UCO had 15 steals in the contest and forced the Bison into 32 turnovers.

“It was a good start for us,” head coach Guy Hardaker said.  “We were anxious to go against some outside competition and I thought we did a lot of good things, though we still made a lot of mistakes.”

UCO had just a 25-23 lead with 6:10 left in the opening half, but Bryan scored 11 points the rest of the way – including a short jumper with two seconds remaining – to give the Bronchos their 10-point halftime cushion.

Layups by Dunn and Courtney Harper along with a 3-pointer by Britney Morgan pushed the lead to 17 (46-29) early in the second half and UCO pulled steadily away the rest of the game.

The Bronchos continue their three-game exhibition schedule Sunday at Division I Wichita State before finishing against Oklahoma State next Wednesday, Nov. 7.
