EDMOND (Jan 20) --
Cristina Yarbrough scored five points in the opening minute to give Central Oklahoma early control and the Bronchos had little trouble overwhelming Southwestern Oklahoma 82-43 Wednesday night at Hamilton Field House.

UCO never trailed in the Lone Star Conference North Division mismatch, taking a 39-24 halftime lead and going up by as many as 43 in cruising to the easy win.  The two-time defending LSC North champion Bronchos improved to 11-5 overall and 2-1 in the league.

"We got off to a good start and really did a nice job of running our offense," UCO coach Guy Hardaker said.  "We had lost two in a row at home and it was really important for us to come out and defend our homecourt."

The Bronchos shot a season-high 55.7 percent (34-of-61) from the field, making 22 assists on those 34 buckets while forcing 26 turnovers and outscoring SWOSU 48-16 on points in the paint.

Ashley Beckley led UCO, making 10-of-16 shots and scoring 21 points in just 22 minutes of action.  Rose Anderson was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field with a 3-pointer in scoring 15 points with four assists and two steals, while Jordan Stark had 15 points, a team-high seven rebounds and two blocks.

The Bronchos also got 10 points and five rebounds off the bench from Alyssa Fuxa and Yarbrough finished with nine points and eight assists.

Yarbrough hit a 3-pointer from the corner just nine seconds after the opening tip-off and turned a Anderson steal into a layup less than a minute later to give UCO its quick 5-0 lead and it was 12-3 just four minutes in after a Beckley layup.

SWOSU closed to within four (20-16) midway through the half, but Courtney Allen ignited a 16-4 run with a 3-pointer and Fuxa closed it with another trey to push the advantage to 36-20 at the 2:32 mark.

UCO went on to lead 39-24 at the break and opened the second half with a 20-2 spurt to squash any comeback hopes the Bulldogs might have harbored.  Anderson had 11 of those points as the cushion grew to 33 (59-26) with 13:52 left to play and SWOSU got no closer than 31 the rest of the way.

The Bronchos go on the road for their next two LSC North games, traveling to Cameron for a 2 p.m. contest Saturday and going to Texas A&M-Commerce next Wednesday.
