Rob McKinzie joined Bob Hoffman’s staff after several small college stints and a turn as athletic director and head boys coach at The Academy of Classical Christian Studies.

Under McKinzie’s guidance The Academy started its high school athletic programs in 2019. On the court, the Griffins finished with back to back 20-win seasons in years 2 and 3 with regular season and conference tournament championships. McKinzie was voted conference Coach of the Year and made two HCAA state semifinal appearances.


McKinzie spent nine years at Oklahoma Christian with coach Dan Hays from 2000-2003 and 2011-2017, where he worked primarily with the guards and was a part of three national tournament teams. He also coached several All-Americans there.

From 2017-2019 he moved to the women’s side at Redlands Community College in El Reno as assistant coach. While at Redlands, McKinzie had two recruiting classes that combined to win Region 2 for the first time in school history. 


He worked as Bartlesville High School’s head girls coach from 2003 to 2006 and as an assistant boys coach at Jenks High School from 2006 to 2007. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, York University (Neb.), where he worked as a men’s assistant coach from 1997 to 2000.


The San Antonio native graduated from York in 1998 after a three-year basketball career with a bachelor of arts degree in secondary physical education with a coaching endorsement. He earned his master’s degree in general education in 2001 from the University of Central Oklahoma.

Rob is married (Rachel) and has two children (Adi and Austin).
