Derek Tunstall enters his third year with the Central Oklahoma men's basketball program serving as an assistant coach. The Mustang, Oklahoma native assists with the bigs on the floor, and also helps out in scouting, recruiting, and operations off the floor. 

Tunstall went to Mustang High School and played basketball there before graduating in 2017. He's a Southern Nazarene alum with a finance degree (2020). 

While in college, Tunstall had the chance to be an assistant coach at Mustang High School from 2018-21. He then joined the Oklahoma City University staff as an assistant in 2021-22. 

Tunstall helped Central Oklahoma to a 26-6 season in 2022-23. The Bronchos finished second in the MIAA and runners-up in the MIAA Basketball Championship before making it to the NCAA tournament first round. The following year, UCO went 20-11 in finishing sixth in the MIAA before reaching the MIAA Basketball Championship Quarterfinals.

Tunstall is also pursuing his Master of Business Administration while working at UCO.
