In his second year as a volunteer assistant coach with the Central Oklahoma men's program is Dan Hays, one of the most successful basketball coaches in collegiate history.

Hays is the winningest coach in Oklahoma history with 724 career victories, with 653 of those wins coming during a 33-year stint as head coach at Oklahoma Christian.  Hays, who retired as the Eagles' head coach following the 2015-16 season, is a member of the NAIA Hall of Fame, the OC Athletic Hall of Fame and the Eastern New Mexico Hall of Honor.

In 2011, OC honored Hays by naming the court inside the Eagles’ Nest as “Dan Hays Court.”

Last year he was awarded the prestigious Guardians of the Game Award, a national award given by the National Association of Basketball Coaches to a coach making a considerable impact on players and their communities. It's widely considered to be one of the highest coaching honors given by the NABC.
