Rudy Darrow

Rudy Darrow joined the Central Oklahoma baseball staff in the fall of 2019 as a volunteer assistant coach and was promoted to a full-time assistant position in December. He oversees the Broncho pitching staff.

Darrow had quite the interesting first season as a UCO staffer. He helped the Bronchos to a 17-3 record before the season was unprecedentedly cut short due to a global health crisis. UCO's pitching staff was near the top of the NCAA in total strikeouts at the time of the season's cancellation. The Bronchos had totaled 235 strikeouts in 20 games, nearly 12 per game. UCO had three pitchers with a zero-ERA and 10 pitchers with a sub-four earned run average.

Darrow, a native of Perkins, Okla., came to UCO from the University of New Orleans, where he held the same position from 2017-19.

He spent two years prior to that at the University of Oklahoma, assisting in a similar role, and working with catchers. Darrow also coached at Nicholls State, where he played collegiately.

Following his playing career at Nicholls, Darrow was a 32nd-round MLB draft pick of the Detroit Tigers in 2006. He spent three years in that minor league organization, reaching AA ball in 2008. He spent one more season playing professionally for the Atlanta Braves minor league system, playing again in AA ball in 2009.

Darrow is a Perkins, Okla. native. He played baseball and wrestled at Labette in Kansas before transferring to Nicholls State.

He is married (Jessica) and has two daughters (Rooney and Danni).
