EDMOND, Okla. (Nov. 21) – Carly Sojka had seven of her 25 kills in the decisive third set to lead Central Missouri past Central Oklahoma in the finals of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Post-season Tournament Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.
The No. 13-ranked Jennies won a 27-25 third-set barnburner after the two teams split the first two and then went on to close out the match to claim a 22-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-18 victory and earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Division II national tournament.
UCM improved to 30-4 with its 10th straight win, while the No. 14-rated Bronchos fell to 30-4 in having a 20-match home winning streak ended. UCO is expected to receive an at-large berth into the Division II tournament when the 64-team field is announced Monday night.
Cheyanne Lyons added 15 kills and Kasey Hohlen 11 for the Jennies, who also got 59 assists, 10 digs and eight kills from Kourtney Thompson.
Central Oklahoma was led by Barbara Jackson, who hit a sizzling .413 with a career-high 33 kills. Elizabeth Boyd added eight kills off the bench and Jordan Spence had seven kills with five assisted blocks.
