EDMOND, Okla. (Nov. 20) – Carly Sojka collected 15 kills to lead No. 13-ranked Central Missouri to a sweep of No. 10 Nebraska-Kearney in the semifinals of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Post-season Tournament here Friday night.
The second-seeded Jennies picked up their ninth straight win with a 25-17, 25-19, 32-30 sweep of the third-seeded Lopers, who had a 12-match winning streak snapped.
UCM improved to 29-4 and moved in Saturday’s 3 p.m. finals against host and top-seeded Central Oklahoma, which beat Washburn 3-1 in the other semifinal. UNK fell to 29-6.
Sojka had 15 kills, three assisted blocks and two service aces to pace the Jennies, who also got 10 kills and six blocks.
Kaitlynn Thomas had a .484 attack percentage in leading the Lopers with a match-high 18 kills. Skyler Erickson chipped in 10 kills.
UCM never trailed in taking the first two sets, but the third set went back-and-forth throughout with 19 ties and five lead changes before the Jennies finally prevailed on back-to-back errors by UNK.
