EDMOND, Okla. (Nov. 20) – Barbara Jackson had a match-high 18 kills and Taylor Bevis added 13 as No. 14-ranked Central Oklahoma got past No. 15 Washburn in the semifinals of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Post-season Tournament here Friday night.
The regular season champion and top-seeded Bronchos beat the fourth-seeded Ichabods 25-23, 22-25, 25-16, 25-22 in advancing to Saturday’s 3 p.m. finals against the winner of the other semifinal match between Central Missouri/Nebraska-Kearney.
UCO reached the 30-win mark for the first time since 2007 in improving to 30-3, while WU fell to 28-5.
Jackson added 13 digs to her 18-kill night and Bevis had five assisted blocks. Jordan Spence added six kills and six blocks for the Bronchos.
Sarah Vicory led the Ichabods with 11 kills and eight assisted blocks.
UCO never led in the opening set until scoring the final five points to overcome a 23-20 deficit. Allison Barr teamed with Deborah Njenje for two blocks and also had a solo rejection to spark that rally.
WU tied the match with the second-set win, but the Bronchos took control early in the next two sets en route to securing their eighth straight win.
