UCO Shuts Out SWOSU

Bronchos Win 2-0 In Weatherford For Second Consecutive Shutout

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Central Oklahoma scored in the first five minutes and again in the last five minutes to lift the Bronchos to a 2-0 shutout win at Southwestern Oklahoma State.

UCO improved to 3-3 on the season with the win. It was the final non-conference game of the season for the Bronchos.

"Really proud of our team today," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "To play like that on defense and to continue to push on offense for those chances was an all-around good team effort. Going 2-0 this week you can see the confidence building and we're getting better at a good time going into conference play."

Central Oklahoma got a free kick in the fifth minute and junior defender Kaitlyn Cotton sent a ball 40-plus yards into the box. Sami Allen brought it down and had space to get a quick shot off and put it in the back of the net to give UCO a 1-0 lead.

In the 89th minute, Caleah Carter ended up with the ball and open space at midfield. She took it all the way into the box for a 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper and put the ball in the back of the net to give UCO the 2-0 lead.

The Bronchos outshot Southwestern 13-10 with a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. A 90-minute clean sheet for Maddie Ortwein with a career-high five saves allowed the Bronchos to get a second consecutive shutout.

Central opens MIAA play at Missouri Western on Friday and will play host to Northwest Missouri next Sunday.
