Bronchos Blank SNU In Dominant Home Win

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma scored early and often in a 4-0 drubbing of Southern Nazarene Wednesday night in a non-conference match at Tom Thompson Field.

UCO is now 2-3 on the season following the win. SNU is 0-3-1.

"In every game we've had our chances and we knew we just had to keep that going," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "We still probably didn't do as much as we could have considering how many chances we created, but we did put it all together tonight and it was great to get the win."

Central Oklahoma outshot Southern Nazarene by a blistering pace of 25-4 and had a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Addison Guthrie scored in the 10th minute and Sami Allen made it 2-0 in the 26th. Camila Mujica added a goal in the 58th minute and Kaitlyn Cotton finished off a penalty in the 88th minute to give UCO the 4-0 lead.

Maddie Ortwein played the full 90 in goal for the Bronchos and made two saves. She earned her first career win Wednesday night.

UCO also held a 9-2 advantage in corners in the match.

Guthrie, a freshman who joined the program in the spring, scored her first career goal early in the match Wednesday night. Jane Lockhart sent a cross into the box and Mujica turned it back to Guthrie, who netted the game's first goal.

Allen scored her first goal in Bronze & Blue in the 26th minute on a breakaway. She got behind the line of defense just past midfield and took the ball all the way inside the 18 before putting it in the back of the net.

In the second half, Mujica got a pass from Allen and made a dazzling shot from the right side of the box to give UCO the 3-0 lead. Dannae Gutierrez picked up the penalty for the Bronchos in the dying minutes. She was tackled in the box on a scoring chance for UCO. Cotton stepped up and delivered the fourth goal – her first of the season.

Central Oklahoma has one more non-conference game left on the schedule Saturday morning at Southwestern Oklahoma State. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 11 a.m. in Weatherford, Oklahoma.

UCO opens MIAA play at Missouri Western next Friday and will host Northwest Missouri on Sunday in Edmond.
