Pete Komada Earns Final MIAA Weekly Honor

Central Oklahoma Senior Named MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma senior Pete Komada was named MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week presented by Classic Court, the league announced Monday.
 
Komada went 4-0 in two matches last week as Central Oklahoma secured its third MIAA regular season title and the No. 1 seed in this week's MIAA Women's Tennis Championship in Springfield, Missouri.
 
UCO is 16-3 on the year and finished with an 8-1 record in the MIAA. The Bronchos received a first-round bye in the six-team postseason tournament and will play the winner of No. 4 Missouri Western and No. 5 Northeastern State on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the semifinals.
 
Central Oklahoma went 2-0 on the final week of the regular season with a 7-0 win at Fort Hays State and a 6-1 win at Nebraska Kearney.
 
Komada is part of the sixth-ranked doubles team for the Bronchos. She won both of her matches 6-2 this week. In singles competition, Komada won 6-0, 6-4 at FHSU and won via retirement in her match at UNK.
 
A senior from Japan, Komada is 16-3 this season. She went 7-2 in MIAA matches. Komada has a 1-0 record playing at No. 1 singles and a 15-3 mark at No. 2 singles. In doubles competition, she is 17-2, all at the No. 1 position, including a 9-0 record in the MIAA.
