Bronchos Blank Fort Hays State

Central Oklahoma Wins 7-0 Friday In Hays, Kansas

HAYS, Kan. – Central Oklahoma beat Fort Hays State 7-0 Friday and is one win away from an MIAA title.
 
The Bronchos won all three doubles matches, accepted a pair of forfeits in singles, and won the other four contests to breeze by Hays. UCO is 15-3 on the season and 7-1 in the MIAA.
 
Central is tied for first place with Washburn (16-3, 7-1). If both teams win Saturday, they'll be co-champions and UCO will get the No. 1 seed in the MIAA Women's Tennis Championship thanks to a 4-3 win over Washburn in Edmond on March 28.
 
In eight MIAA matches for Central Oklahoma, the Bronchos have won all three doubles matches every single time. UCO is a combined 24-0 in MIAA doubles contests.
 
Friday, No. 6 ranked Mei Hasegawa and Pete Komada won 6-2, Ayaka Koga and Anika Ouwejan won 6-1 at No. 2, and Hayle Hibbets and Milana Quick won 6-3 at No. 3 for the sweep.
 
Dilay Ata (No. 5) and Hui Soo (No. 6) both won by default to give Central Oklahoma a 3-0 lead in the match.
 
Hasegawa, ranked No. 20 in the country, won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 and Komada won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Ouwejan won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 and Karyna Yurchenko won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles for the 7-0 victory.
 
Central Oklahoma plays at Nebraska Kearney (10-9, 4-4 MIAA) on Saturday at 1 p.m. Washburn and Northeastern State play in Tahlequah at 10 a.m. The MIAA Women's Tennis Championship is May 1-3 in Springfield, Missouri. The top two seeds get a first-round bye and will begin May 2 against first-round winners. UCO won the postseason tournament last year.
