Bronchos Split In Texas

Central Oklahoma Beats A&M Kingsville Before Loss At Angelo State

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Central Oklahoma split its two-game tangle in Texas this week, beating Texas A&M Kingsville on Thursday before a loss to Angelo State on Friday.

UCO is now 5-2 following the matches. The Bronchos are scheduled to play in Arkansas next week against Harding and Henderson State.

Thursday against Kingsville, UCO lost the doubles point for the first time this season. The Bronchos came up short at all three positions and trailed 1-0 before winning four singles matches to earn the 4-3 victory.

In the doubles matches, Pete Komada and Mei Hasegawa lost 7-5, Ayaka Koga and Anika Ouwejan lost 6-2, and Haley Hibbets and Milana Quick lost 6-2.

Hasegawa earned a 6-1, 6-0 win in singles play, Komada won 7-5, 6-2, Ouwejan won 6-2, 6-2, and Dilay Ata earned a three-set win, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

On Friday, UCO got out to a 1-0 lead winning doubles matches at the first two positions. However, Angelo State, which is receiving votes in the latest ITA Top 25, won four matches to get the 4-2 win.

Komada and Hasegawa won against Angelo State, 6-4, and Koga and Ouwejan won by the same score. Hibbets and Quick lost 6-3. Hasegawa won 7-6 (5), 6-4 in singles play to get UCO its second point of the match.

Central Oklahoma plays Harding and Henderson State next week, then North Texas the following week before opening MIAA play later this month.
