Anika Ouwejan Named MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

Central Oklahoma Junior Went 6-0 Last Week To Lead Bronchos In Three Wins

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma junior Anika Ouwjean was named MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
 
Ouwejan, from Wervershoof, Netherlands, went 6-0 on Central's three-match non-conference tour in Arkansas last week. The Bronchos beat Harding, Henderson State, and Arkansas Tech, and Ouwejan led the way.
 
Playing No. 2 doubles with teammate Ayaka Koga, Ouwejan won 6-2 at Harding, 7-5 at Henderson State, and 6-1 at Arkansas Tech. As a team, the duo is 8-1 this season and has won four matches in a row.
 
Playing No. 3 singles, Ouwejan dropped her first set of the week but came back quickly to win 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 at Harding. She led 6-3, 3-2 at Henderson State when her opponent retired. And at Arkansas Tech, Ouwejan made it a perfect week winning 6-4, 6-3.
 
Ouwejan is 6-2 this season, all at No. 3 singles, and has won her last three matches.
 
UCO is 8-2 on the season and opens MIAA play next week with a Tuesday trip to Wichita, Kansas to take on Newman. The Bronchos host Emporia State and No. 10 Washburn next weekend in Edmond.
