Central Wins Again In Arkansas

Bronchos Beat Henderson State 5-2 Thursday In Arkadelphia

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Central Oklahoma won its second match in as many days Thursday when the Bronchos beat Henderson State 5-2 in a non-conference match.

UCO improved to 7-2 on the season with the win. The Bronchos wrap up a three-games in three-days stretch Friday morning against Arkansas Tech, making up a contest that was postponed in February due to weather.

"We weren't great in doubles today," UCO head women's tennis coach Joe Vann said. "But we did a great job of putting that behind us and getting the win."

Central Oklahoma lost the doubles point for just the second time in eight matches this season. The Bronchos' newly ranked No. 1 team of Pete Komada and Mei Hasegawa lost 6-2 and Henderson won the point with a 6-3 win at No. 3 over Karyna Yurchenko and Hui Soo. The Bronchos did get a win at No. 2 from Ayaka Koga and Anika Ouwejan, 7-5.

Down 1-0, UCO recovered quickly.

Yurchenko won 6-0, 6-2, Soo won 6-1, 6-0, and Hasegawa won 6-0, 6-2, to give UCO a 3-1 lead. Ouwejan won up 6-3, 3-2 via retirement to clinch the match, then Komada won 6-3, 7-5 to get UCO's fifth point. Dilay Ata's 6-3, 7-6 (4) loss at No. 5 singles was the only other setback.

Central Oklahoma visits Arkansas Tech on Thursday morning and will wrap up non-conference play with a non-divisional match against North Texas on Monday in Denton, Texas.

The Bronchos open MIAA play March 24 at Newman and will make its return to Edmond March 27 against Emporia State.
