Lemos, Kinnaird Lead Bronchos Past Black Hills State

UCO Earned Fifth Straight Win With 7-2 Victory

EDMOND – Rylee Lemos' three-run triple keyed a big fourth inning uprising that carried Central Oklahoma past Black Hills State Sunday afternoon at Gerry Pinkston Stadium on the final day of the UCO/OC Softball Festival.

The No. 11-ranked Bronchos scored six runs in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie and went on to a 7-2 victory, their fifth in a row. UCO is now 8-2 on the season under first-year head coach Sam Maples

Carleigh Kinnaird came up big in the pitching circle for the Bronchos, giving up just three hits and one run in 5.2 innings of relief work. The freshman right-hander didn't walk a batter and struck out six in improving to 5-0.

The Yellow Jackets took a 1-0 lead in the second, with UCO tying it in the third. Brooklyn Lyles led off with a single to right field, Bonnie Childs followed with a double down the right field line and Lemos delivered a one-out RBI single up the middle.

The Bronchos took control in the fourth with their six-run explosion.

Kennedy Clark got the inning started with a double off the right field wall before Haley Gallo and Hannah Demoff drew back-to-back walks to load the bases with no outs. Lyles plated the first run with a sacrifice fly, then Childs hustled out an infield single for another RBI.

Rylee Anglen kept things going with a bunt single that loaded the bases again and Lemos promptly emptied them. The senior All-American ripped a three-run triple to right-center field – her third in two games – and Jenna Jobe added a two-out RBI double to make it 7-1

BHSU scored its final run in the fifth but didn't threaten again as Kinnaird finished off another impressive outing.

The Bronchos start a 14-game road swing later this week, traveling to Tahlequah for five games at the Cherokee Nation Festival. UCO opens against Oklahoma Baptist at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
