Bronchos Fall to Oklahoma Baptist

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – A slim lead disappeared in a late-inning onslaught as No. 7-ranked Central Oklahoma dropped a 9-3 decision to No. 25 Oklahoma Baptist Thursday afternoon on the first day of the Cherokee Nations Softball Festival.

The Bronchos were nursing a 1-0 lead heading into the top of the sixth inning before OBU broke through with eight runs on seven hits to go ahead 8-1. UCO scored twice in the bottom of the frame, then the Bison added another run in the seventh.

Central fell to 8-3 in having a five-game winning streak while OBU improved to 11-1. The Bronchos return Friday to face Harding at 11 a.m. and Arkansas-Monticello at 1:30 p.m.

UCO broke a scoreless tie in the fourth when Hannah Demoff lined a two-out single to right-center and Brooklyn Lyles followed with a run-scoring double to right.

That 1-0 lead held up until the top of the sixth the Bison took control with their big eight-run inning.

The Bronchos got two runs back in the bottom of the frame as Kennedy Clark drove a one-out triple down the left field line and Haley Gallo promptly smashed a home run to left-center.

OBU came back with one run in the top of the seventh to make it 9-3 and that's the way it finished.
