UCO Falls In Overtime Battle

Bronchos Lost 80-71 At Missouri Western

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Central Oklahoma stormed back to force overtime but came up short at Missouri Western 80-71 Saturday afternoon.
 
The Bronchos are 8-15 on the season with a 3-11 record in the MIAA. Central is home next week for a one game, Saturday against Rogers State.
 
Central Oklahoma has five games left, the next three at home. UCO hosts Washburn and Central Missouri after Rogers State. The Bronchos visit Northeastern State and Arkansas Fort Smith to finish the year.
 
Saturday's game featured 18 lead changes and 10 ties. The Bronchos trailed 53-40 heading to the fourth quarter but put up 27 points to tie the game. Central had a 6-0 run and an 8-0 run before the media timeout, then another 6-0 run after the break.
 
Nykaiya Dillard made a layup with 2:58 remaining to tie the game. She was fouled on the basket and her free-throw gave the Bronchos a 60-59 lead. There were eight lead changes over the final three minutes starting with Dillard's and-1.
 
Missouri Western took a 67-66 lead with one minute remaining. Kaitlyn McCarn missed a shot with 30 seconds left but Jerney Bennett grabbed the offensive rebound and was fouled. She made 1 of 2 and the game was tied. Western committed and offensive foul with four seconds left trying to win the game. Madison Roberts missed a jumper with two seconds left.
 
In overtime, the Bronchos went 2-for-8 and let the host Griffons take the win. UCO was outscored 13-4 in the extra five minutes.
 
McCarn led UCO with 18 points. Dillard scored 14 and Haniya Geretta added 12. Roberts finished with seven points.
 
Bennett also had seven points, eight rebounds, and one blocked shot. Bobbie Fouquet and Harley Harbour scored four each, Olivia Quapaw scored three, and Peyton Walker added two points.
 
Central Oklahoma shot 35.4 percent from the floor, making 29 of 82 shots. The Bronchos were 2-for-14 from behind the 3-point line, with Geretta and Quapaw making shots from deep. The Bronchos were 11-for-18 at the free-throw line.
