Central Goes Cold In Maryville

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Central Oklahoma had a cold-shooting night in Bearcat Arena Thursday and lost 57-40 at Northwest Missouri.
 
UCO is now 8-14 on the season and 3-10 in the MIAA. The Bronchos continue their weekend road trip at Missouri Western on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is St. Joseph, Missouri is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
 
Jerney Bennett had a 10-point, 9-rebound, 6-block stat line but she was the highest scoring Broncho. As a team, Central shot 23.4 percent, making 15 of 64 shots. The Bronchos were 3-for-14 behind the 3-point line and 7-for-16 at the free-throw line.
 
UCO also got eight points from Bobbie Fouquet (3-for-14) and Nykaiya Dillard (3-for-12). Kaitlyn McCarn and Olivia Quapaw both scored five points and were 4-for-20 together. Haniya Geretta and Madison Roberts both scored two points.
 
Central led 4-0 three minutes into the game and took a 10-8 lead with 4:09 remaining in the first quarter. Northwest led 16-12 at the end of the first quarter. But the second quarter turned the game.
 
Northwest scored first and McCarn hit a 3-pointer, but then it was 12 straight by the Bearcats. UCO scored for the second time with 1:23 remaining before halftime and trailed 30-15. Quapaw hit a 3-pointer to end the drought and made a layup to send to halftime, 32-20.
 
The Bronchos trailed 52-29 after three quarters as the cold spell hung over the Bronchos all night. Central was just 2-for-13 in the third quarter and got outscored 20-9. The Bronchos outscored Northwest in the fourth quarter and held the 'Cats to just five points. But UCO couldn't score enough to get back in the game.
 
Central Oklahoma will play at Missouri Western on Saturday afternoon. The Bronchos have three home games after that and will host Rogers State Feb. 14 to begin that homestand at Hamilton.
