Bronchos Blast Rockhurst

Central Oklahoma Goes 2-0 At Washburn Invitational

TOPEKA, Kan. – Central Oklahoma wrapped up its weekend in the Washburn Invitational Sunday with a 12-0 run-rule win over Rockhurst.

The Bronchos improved to 13-4 on the season with the win. UCO was scheduled to play Montana State Billings early Sunday but that game was canceled due to cold temperatures.

Central Oklahoma is scheduled to return to Eastern Kansas next weekend for the Midwest College Classic in Shawnee, Kansas for a five-game weekend.

UCO had a five-run top of the first inning to pounce on Rockhurst Sunday and the Bronchos never looked back. Shelby Beard picked up a win in the 3.0 inning start. She struck out six batters and only allowed one base hit. Madison Hamilton threw the final 2.0 innings and struck out one batter while only giving up a pair of hits.

Sherri Mason went 3-for-4 to lead the Bronchos. Kennedy Clark, Jenna Jobe, and Hannah Demoff all had two hits each. Four other players had one hit as UCO pelted 13 on the day.

Brooklyn Ryan's one-out double in the first was the first hit of the game and she scored on a two-out single by Clark to make it 1-0. UCO had a lot more to take in the opening frame.

Jobe doubled to left center. Demoff singled to left center to score Clark. And after a Mari Scott walk, Mason had a bases-clearing double to left to give UCO the early 5-0 lead.

The Bronchos had a pair of hits and left the bases loaded in the second. Then UCO got back to building the lead in the third.

Mason led off with a double and advanced to third on Rylee Anglen's sacrifice bunt. Both runners stole a base and Mason's take of home gave the Bronchos a 6-0 lead. Ryan reached on an error and Anglen scored to make it 7-0. Ryan would steal home as Mackenzie Fithian stole second. UCO led 8-0 then.

Fithian pinch-hit for Haley Gallo, drew a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error on the play that Ryan scored on. Fithian then scored herself on a wild pitch to make it 9-0.

Mason led off the fourth with her third double of the game. She scored on Rylee Lemos' single to right field. Lyles then homered to right to make it the final 12-0.
