Central Oklahoma Blanks Drury For Series Win

Bronchos Win 4-0 In Game 2 Saturday In Edmond, Aim For Sweep on Sunday

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma got an early lead that was more than enough for its shut-down defense Saturday when the Bronchos beat No. 17 Drury 4-0 at Wendell Simmons Field.

UCO improved to 9-3 on the season with the win. The Bronchos clinched their second series of the year with their second win of this weekend. Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday at noon.

Danny Satterlee got the start and threw six shutout innings to spark a defensive performance the Bronchos can hang their hat on this season. Tristan Wittau, Zack Hudspeth, Logan Taylor, and Mylan Childers all followed with an inning of shutout baseball – the second this season for the Bronchos.

UCO struck out 11 batters and forced Drury into 10 runners left on base. The latter number could've been more if not for two, inning-ending double plays the Central infield turned on Saturday.

Satterlee struck out five batters and only allowed five hits and a pair of walks. Wittau also put two on base for free in his inning but he also struck out three to get out of the early jam. Hudspeth faced three batters and got three flyouts to get through the seventh. Taylor gave up a pair of singles but struck out a batter and got one of the double plays to end the eight. Childers walked the leadoff in the ninth before a flyout and a strikeout. He hit a batter to put two on but struck out the final batter of the game looking to close the game.

UCO got all the offense it needed in the first inning. Colton Ayres led off with a single and Luke Stout got hit by a pitch. Carson Taylor sacrificed himself with a bunt to move the runners over. A wild pitch allowed Ayres to score and the Bronchos led 1-0.

Elijah Alexander drew a bases loaded walk that allowed Stout to score to make it 2-0. Jackson Archambeau did the same and Drake Lee, who followed Carson Taylor's sac-bunt with a walk, scored to make it 3-0.

Caleb Castle led off the second with a single. He moved to second on an Ayres walk, and to third on a Carson Taylor fielder's choice back to the pitcher. On the next play, as Carson Taylor attempted to steal second, the Drury catcher threw the ball into centerfield and Castle scored to make it 4-0.

Drury's starter got out of two innings giving up four runs on three hits, four walks, and a hit batter. The reliever came on and threw the remaining six innings and only allowed five hits.

Castle led UCO going 2-for-3 at the plate. Ayres, Stout, Lee, Kade Sheldon, and Archambeau all had one hit each.

Central Oklahoma has two more home games in the home-heavy February. UCO is 9-3 on the year, 9-2 at home. The Bronchos play Game 3 against Drury Sunday at noon and hosts Southeastern Oklahoma State on Tuesday afternoon.
