UCO Drops Washburn Contest In Edmond

Bronchos Fall In Second To Last Home Game Of The Season

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma dropped the first of two home games this week, falling 63-48 to Washburn Thursday night at Hamilton Field House.

UCO is now 9-16 on the season and 4-12 in the MIAA. The Bronchos host Central Missouri on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Seniors will be recognized prior to tipoff. Central Oklahoma closes the regular season on the road next week.

UCO had an early lead but only for the opening moments on Thursday night. The Bronchos led early 4-1, then 6-3, and soon after 8-7, but when Washburn took a 9-8 lead with 4:38 to play in the opening quarter, UCO never led again.

Washburn used a 7-2 run to take an 18-12 lead into the first break of the night. The visiting Ichabods stretched it to double figures in the second quarter and settled on a 31-22 lead at halftime. UCO cut it to four points midway through the third quarter but then trailed 45-35 heading to the final frame and never got closer in the fourth.

Central Oklahoma made just 16 baskets on Thursday night, shooting 31.4 percent from the field (16-for-51). The Bronchos were 2-for-13 from behind the 3-point line (15.4 pct.) and had almost as many made free-throws as field goals, going 14-for-18 at the line.

Bobbie Fouquet led the Bronchos with 12 points on 4 of 10 shooting. She was 4-for-4 at the line and added five rebounds. Jerney Bennett nearly had a triple double, scoring 10 points to go with eight blocks and seven rebounds.

The sophomore Bennett entered the game with 95 blocks on the season, five shy of the UCO single season record. She had six in the first half to break the record and added two more in the second half. Bennett's 103 blocks this season passes Jesheon Cooper's 100 blocks in the 2017-18 season.

UCO also got seven points from Talia Pogi, six from Kendrick Bailey, four from Kaitlyn McCarn and Madison Roberts, three from Nykaiya Dillard, and two from Olivia Quapaw.

Central Oklahoma hosts Central Missouri Saturday afternoon. The Bronchos play at Arkansas Fort Smith on Thursday night next week and will play at Northeastern State in the regular season finale on Saturday, Feb. 28.
