Pete Komada Named MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

Central Oklahoma Senior All-American Started 2026 Season 4-0

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma senior Pete Komada was named MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
 
The Japan native who earned All-American honors last season, and is ranked 15th in the country in the ITA national rankings, went 4-0 on the first week of the 2026 season.
 
"Pete is a leader for us," UCO head women's tennis coach Joe Vann said. "She shows up every day ready to work and sets a great example for the team. We're happy for her to be recognized for her efforts. She did her part in winning every match she played for us last week."
 
UCO opened the 2026 season against 18th-ranked UT Tyler on Thursday afternoon and lost 5-2. Both points came from Komada. Playing No. 1 doubles alongside teammate Mei Hasegawa, Komada won 7-5 over the seventh-ranked doubles team in the country. She also won 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 2 singles position.
 
On Friday against Southwest Baptist, Komada won again at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, and then cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles to help the Bronchos to a 6-1 team win over Southwest Baptist.
 
Komada has won 70 matches as a Broncho. She was the 2025 ITA Central Region doubles champion.
 
UCO is back in action this week with one match on Friday afternoon. The Bronchos host Ouachita Baptist Friday at 1 p.m. at Broncho Courts on campus.
