UCO Comes Up Short Against Lady Hornets

Bronchos Fall 65-56 In MIAA Matchup At Hamilton Field House

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma lost 65-56 to Emporia State Saturday afternoon in an MIAA matchup at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos are now 8-13 on the season and 3-9 in the MIAA heading into the final month of the season. UCO has seven games remaining with four on the road and three in Edmond.

Central plays Thursday at Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western next Saturday before three straight home games against Rogers State, Washburn, and Central Missouri. UCO closes the regular season on the road at Northeastern State and Arkansas Fort Smith.

Saturday, Central Oklahoma got behind early and fought to stay in the game most of the way. The Bronchos had a 5-4 lead three minutes into the game and it was tied 8-8 at the first quarter media timeout. But Emporia used an 11-1 run to get in front and never trailed again.

ESU led 21-14 after the first quarter and 37-27 at halftime. The visiting Lady Hornets in the first half shot better than 50 percent overall (15-28) and from behind the 3-point line (6-11).

Central's deficit increased by two after the third quarter and though the Bronchos outscored Emporia in the final frame it was too late.

UCO shot 30.2 percent on the day, going 19-for-63 from the floor. The Bronchos were 5-for-23 behind the 3-point line and 13-for-17 at the free-throw line.
