Five In A Row For UCO

Bronchos Beat Newman In Wichita For Fifth Consecutive Win

WICHITA, Kan. – Central Oklahoma jumped out to a big lead and cruised to an 18-point win Saturday when the Bronchos beat Newman 73-55 in an MIAA matchup.
 
The win was the fifth in a row for the Bronchos, who are now 6-7 on the season. The win was also the first in the MIAA this season for Central, which is 1-3 in league play. UCO hosts Northeastern State and Arkansas Fort Smith next week at Hamilton Field House.
 
"Everyone helped out today," first-year head women's basketball coach Hannah Moeller said. "We played really well on defense and everyone did what they could to contribute on offense. All around it was a good effort for us."
 
Central Oklahoma led for 39 of 40 minutes on Saturday. While Newman scored the first basket and made a free-throw after the whistle, UCO went on an 8-0 run and led 15-5 nearing the end of the first quarter. It was 19-9 after 10 minutes and the Bronchos never looked back.
 
Central led by six at halftime and then by 18 going to the fourth quarter before winning by that margin, 73-55.
 
Bobbie Fouquet led UCO with 22 points on 10 of 17 shooting. She hit a pair of 3-pointers and put up the season high despite no free-throw attempts. Fouquet added five rebounds and also had a steal and an assist.
 
Jerney Bennett also scored in double figures with 10 points and the sophomore guard continued her dominant play with 14 rebounds and three blocked shots. Peyton Walker made it three in double figures with 10 points, hitting three shots including a pair of 3-pointers.
 
UCO also got six points from Nykaiya Dillard and Olivia Quapaw, five from Harley Harbour, and four each from Kendrick Bailey and Kaitlyn McCarn. Talia Pogi and Madison Roberts both scored three points.
 
Central Oklahoma shot 44.4 percent overall on Saturday, making 28 of 63 total shots. The Bronchos 5-for-12 from behind the 3-point line and 12-for-17 from the free-throw line.
 
Central hosts Northeastern State on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. at Hamilton Field House. The Bronchos host Arkansas Fort Smith at 1:30 p.m. next Saturday in Edmond.
