Central Oklahoma, West Texas Announce Football Series

Bronchos Visiting Canyon, Texas In 2028, Hosting Buffaloes In 2029

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma and West Texas A&M have reached a two-year agreement for a home-and-home football series in 2028 and 2029 the schools announced Thursday afternoon.

UCO will travel to Canyon, Texas for the first matchup Thursday, Aug. 31, 2028, at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium. West Texas A&M will come to Edmond Thursday, Aug. 30, 2029, for the second meeting at Chad Richison Stadium.

"This is an intriguing matchup on several levels, so we appreciate West Texas A&M working with us to make it happen," UCO Vice President for Athletics Stan Wagnon said. "We have tremendous respect for Coach Josh Lynn and the type of program he runs. This series represents the marquee, non-conference competition that Division II football needs. UCO and WT feature two of the top Division II stadiums in the country and we've had some very competitive games over the years, so it is very exciting to renew the rivalry. WT is one of the iconic names in NCAA Division II."

Central Oklahoma and West Texas A&M have met 20 times on the football field, with the Bronchos owning an 11-8-1 advantage in the series. WT is a long-time member of the Lone Star Conference and has won five conference championships. UCO spent more than 20 years as an LSC member and won two conference titles.

"We are excited to renew an old rivalry with Central Oklahoma in 2028 and 2029. Thank you to Stan  Wagnon and the UCO administrative staff for making this a reality," WT Vice President of Athletics Doug Lipinski said. "The home and home agreement allows fans and alumni of both institutions the unique opportunity to visit two of the top Division II facilities in the nation. Coach (Adam) Dorrel and his staff have done a great job building a first-class program in Edmond."

Central is led by fifth-year head football coach Adam Dorrel, who has guided the Bronchos to an MIAA championship and an NCAA Division II Football Championship appearance, both in 2024. Dorrel is 28-18 in four seasons at UCO and 123-58 overall in 15 years of coaching.

West Texas A&M is led by Josh Lynn. He is 16-17 after three years in Canyon. Lynn has a 90-70 career record overall in 15 years of coaching.
