UCO Outpaced In Kearney

Bronchos Fall 65-57 At UNK

KEARNEY, Neb. – Central Oklahoma rallied but couldn't come away with a win Thursday night at Nebraska Kearney where the Bronchos lost 65-57 in the MIAA matchup.
 
UCO is now 7-11 on the year and 2-7 in the MIAA after its third consecutive defeat. The Bronchos continue a weekend road trip Saturday at No. 5 Fort Hays State with tipoff in Hays, Kansas set for 2 p.m.
 
Central led UNK 54-53 with 6:36 to play in the fourth quarter Thursday night and trailed only 58-57 with 2:40 to play. However, the Bronchos went 0-for-6 in the final two minutes and Kearney ended the game on a 7-0 run to seal the win.
 
Kaitlyn McCarn led Central with 15 points and Nykaiya Dillard added 11 off the bench. They were the only two in double figures for the Bronchos, who shot 33.3 percent in the game.
 
UCO was 25-for-75 overall, 4-for-23 from behind the 3-point line, and just 3-for-4 at the free-throw line.
 
McCarn nearly had a double-double with nine rebounds. She was 6-for-18 in the game and 1-for-5 from deep. Dillard fouled out in 13 minutes of play and was 5-for-9 in the game.
 
Bobbie Fouquet added nine points and eight rebounds. Kendrick Bailey scored seven points to go with four boards and three steals. Jerney Bennett tallied six points, six rebounds, and one block.
 
Peyton Walker scored five points and Haniya Geretta and Harley Harbour had two each.
 
UCO had an 8-7 lead in the first quarter but trailed 15-10 at the first break. The Bronchos then led 28-23 in the second quarter before a five-minute scoring drought to end the half left it 33-28 Kearney at halftime.
 
The Bronchos had one lead in the third quarter and it was tied three times before going to the final frame, 49-47, UNK. Central Oklahoma took the lead with a 7-4 advantage in the first three and a half minutes, but when Kearney went up with 6:28 to play, the Bronchos wouldn't lead again.
 
Central Oklahoma plays at Fort Hays State on Saturday afternoon. The Bronchos are home next week for games against Newman on Wednesday, Jan. 28 and Emporia State on Saturday, Jan. 31.
