UCO Drops Non-Conference Clash With Augustana

Bronchos Fall 3-1 In Neutral-Site Matchup In Minnesota

MANKATO, Minn. – Central Oklahoma came up short, 3-1, in a non-conference matchup with Augustana Sunday afternoon at Minnesota State.

The neutral-site setback left the Bronchos 0-1-1 after opening weekend in Minnesota. UCO tied MSU 0-0 on Friday.

"We talked about consistency from game to game and we didn't have that this weekend," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "We played really well on Friday, but not today. We need to be better moving forward."

Central Oklahoma outshot Augustana 10-7, but Augie had a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Vikings from South Dakota scored on two penalty kicks along with another goal.

UCO senior goalkeeper Avery Bass made three saves.

The Bronchos fell behind early when a handball in the box allowed Augustana a penalty kick in just the fourth minute of the game. Augie converted to take a 1-0 lead. The first half stayed that way for 40 more minutes before a late goal by the Bronchos tied it up.

UCO earned a corner kick and the ball was turned out toward the top middle of the box. Jordan Tanges came into a shot and put it through for the score.

In the second half, Augustana got another early goal, this time a solid attack. The shot in the 50th minute from the right side of the box found the left upper 90 to give Augie the 2-1 lead.

Augustana earned a second penalty kick in the 80th minute and put it away to make it the final, 3-1.

Central Oklahoma will play its home opener this week with a Thursday night meeting against Midwestern State. The Bronchos host MSU at Tom Thompson Field before hitting the road again for a matchup at No. 15 Dallas Baptist next Saturday.
