UCO Draws At No. 3 Minnesota State

Bronchos Blank Mavericks On The Road

MANKATO, Minn. – Central Oklahoma tied No. 3 Minnesota State 0-0 Friday in the 2025 season opener.

Avery Bass played the full 90 in goal and kept a clean sheet, making five saves, including an early penalty kick for the host Mavericks. UCO will stay in Mankato for the weekend and is scheduled to take on Augustana (S.D.) on Sunday at 12 p.m.

"Defensively, we couldn't be more proud to come up to the No. 3 team in the country and get a shutout," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "We wish we could have created more chances on offense, but we'll take this shutout. And we need to come back focused on Sunday to make this a good weekend."

Central Oklahoma took 11 shots to Minnesota State's eight shots, while MSU held a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. UCO also did not attempt a corner kick on the day while the host Mavericks took nine. Fouls were even, 10-10, and both teams had a player receive a yellow card.

Bass, who made 91 saves last season, the second most in school history, and ranks seventh all-time with 133 career saves, was in true from on Friday. The senior from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma made three saves in the first half and two more in the second half. She was tested early, with MSU taking a penalty in the seventh minute. But Bass wouldn't be bothered and made the save.

Sheridan Ross took UCO's first shot on goal in the 42nd minute. It was the fifth shot of the half for the Bronchos. Adria Ramirez got a shot on goal in the 74th minute, and Caleah Carter took one in the 90th minute, but UCO couldn't get one in the back of the net.

Central Oklahoma is now 2-3-1 against MSU all-time. After starting the series 0-3-0, UCO hasn't lost to the Mavericks in the last three meetings (2018, 2022, 2025). The Bronchos are 1-1-0 against Augustana, with a win in 2014 and the loss in Mankato in the 2019 national tournament.

The Bronchos will return home following Sunday's match with Augie. The home opener for UCO is Thursday, Sept. 11 against Midwestern State at 7 p.m.
