Bronchos Battle Past Bulldogs In Final Non-Conference Matchup

Central Oklahoma Beats Southwestern Oklahoma State 1-0 In Edmond

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma finished non-conference play with a 1-0 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State Sunday at Tom Thompson Field.

The Bronchos are now 2-2-2 on the season and begin MIAA play with two more home matches coming this weekend.

"We played well enough to score a lot more than one goal, but that was enough today," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "Our defense was really good again and we needed every bit of it. We had a lot of opportunities and just got unlucky almost every time."

Central Oklahoma outshot Southwestern 20-8 in the match and had a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Bronchos put the pressure on the Bulldogs from Weatherford, Oklahoma all afternoon. And it wasn't until the 81st minute that Central got the advantage.

Adison Knocke took a shot from the left side of the box that hit the crossbar. Jordan Tanges got a rebound and fired a shot from the ride side of the box that hit the post. Those two shots were as close as several others and it seemed the Bronchos weren't meant to score in the game.

However, Elena Conaway got the rebound off Tanges' shot and she fired a third shot in less than 10 seconds and found the back of the net to give UCO the 1-0 lead.

Conaway took five shots in the game and put four on target, with one finally breaking through for the junior from Broken Arrow. It's her first goal of the season and first since Sept. 14, 2023 having spent most of last season working her way back from an injury she suffered late in her freshman campaign.

Tanges took three shots and put two on goal. Emma Fioretti also took three and put one on target. Rebekah George, Caleah Carter, and Jane Lockhart each took two shots and Knocke, Sophia Gaskins, and Rebecca Tweedy all had one shot each.

Avery Bass pitched another shutout in goal for the Bronchos. She played the full 90 and made four saves.

Central Oklahoma will open MIAA play with two home games. The Bronchos host Washburn on Friday night in Edmond and Emporia State on Sunday afternoon. UCO goes on a four-game road swing following this upcoming conference opening weekend.
